eSalon hair dye review

eSalon.com

eSalon is a customized hair dye company. You answer a series of Q's online about your hair (things like your natural hair color, hair type, length, what color you want it to be) and they come up with a hair dye package for you.

I got an email from eSalon.com for a free trial of their hair dye. So I went online, answered the Q's, and I picked out 'mahogany red'. (Got here in 3 days)
The package comes with:
* The hair dye
* Leave-in conditioner
* Stain gaurd
* Stain remover
* Little pads for the stain remover & stain gaurd
* A bowl (for the hair dye)
* A brush for dye application
* 4 clips (for sectioning hair)
* 'Bib'
* Timer (battery included)
and of course the instructions

Pros

1) Decent hair dye
2) Came out the exact color I wanted
3) Lots of useful tools (that I can use in the future, multiple times over, no matter what hair dye I use)
4) Only took 3 days to get here
5) I REALLY like that it's customized for me. Every bottle and the instructions had my name printed on them.

Cons

I know this is not going to be a favorite section because it does seem SO cool. But there are a few bad things you might want to consider if you're planning on buying this product.
1) (ignore if you have thin hair) The brush that comes with it is a very little brush that I can't use with my hair. It's not like the ones they have in salons.
2) The instructions weren't very good. It would have made a HUGE difference if they were written a bit better.
3) Even though I told them I have extreamly dry hair, I don't think they took that into account. Drugstore hair dyes (even the $5 ones) didn't damage my hair this much. (but it was just a little bit more damage!! Don't think it's gonna be horrible for your hair, cause that's just how my hair is. On an average girls hair, you probably won't notice it.)
4) It was a little bit harder to rinse out than drugstore hair dyes. (very little difference, though)
5) When you're ordering it, you can only choose up to 2 shades lighter than your natural hair color, so it's not as big of a variety as buying dye from drugstores.  BUT, they do that so it won't do as much damage to your hair.
Now you might not care about some of these, but it's just some things to take into account.
You have to pay shipping (obviously) so it's about 6 dollars more than going to a drugstore and buying dye. BUT you also get the extra tools that you can't even buy in drugstores (I don't think), so that might be a desicion maker if you really want those things.

CONCLUSION

I would probably buy this product again in the future, but not every time. I like the company, but it's a lot more to deal with than drugstore hair dyes. BUT, I think it might work a lot better on your hair if it's not too dry or thick. (remember, my hair is REALLY dry and REALLY thick.)
All in all, I say they're definitely worth trying out. If you don't like it (I doubt you'll hate it), well . . . don't buy it again? lol Hope this all helped you. :)

Mama's 2 cents

 My mom dyed my hair so this is what she has to say about it:
The equipment sent to use with this dye was not the best!!  Even though it had two different ways to apply, the bowl & brush were pretty useless. Well the brush anyway ~~ it is way too small for application, especially if the hair is very thick like Sarah's. So we used the bottles instead. Yes, two different bottles, two different mixtures, two different applications, two different timers!! Too many steps in my opinion. It also had two seperate pairs of gloves which I thought was very useful until I tried to put them on!! But quickly found taking them off to be an even bigger feat!! They definitely need to send at least medium size with the kits ~~ not many women have extra small hands.

My Skin Care routine

My twice a day skin care routine that REALLY works for me!!

I've had A LOT of acne for a really long time now. No matter how hard I try, it never really goes away.  So if a product really works, the ultimate test is using it on my face.  And I've got some products for you that REALLY work for me!!  They've made a massive difference in my skin in the past couple of days.  So I bet this will be helpful.  :)

1) I clean my face good with Loreal Paris 'Go 360 Clean' deep facial cleanser' ('for sensitive skin' because my skin is really dry)
2) I use a Clearasil 'Daily Pore Cleansing Pads'. This is a really important step, in my opinion. It really makes a difference. (Let dry for a few seconds before 3rd step)
3) I use (which I LOVE!!!!) Clean & Clear 'Duel Action moisturizer' (salicylic acid acne medication) But if you already have oily skin, skip this step. If you have dry or combination skin, don't forget to use a product like this. This also make a massive difference!!
4) And last, but not least, I put Clearasil 'Tinted Adult Treatment Cream' (Spot acne medicine) on my trouble areas (chin and forehead in my case).

Cosmetic trends for Spring 2011

What does Seventeen Magazine have to say about it?

* Lemon eyeliner
* metallic lime nails
* Aqua eyeshadow
* Coral lips
(page 150-161 of Seventeen Magazine's March 2011 issue)

Hair!!

What girl doesn't love to talk about hair?

So what's your hair color?

My hair hair is naturally a really dark brown, but I've dyed it a dark red. I used a $5 hair dye because I wasn't completely sure I was going to like being a red head. But I LOVE IT!!
So I've just ordered a hair dye kit from esalon.com for an even better red shade.  I'll be doing a full review on it once it gets here and I use it.  I don't know exactly what it is about being a red head but I love it so much more than my dark hair.
esalon is a customizing hair dye company.  You take a series of Qs to customize the hair dye perfectly for your hair.  You anwser the Qs, they send you YOUR hair dye.  I really hope this turns out to be a good product/company.

Moore on acne

Here's an idea to consider!!

Try taking 2 or 3 days off during the weekend, or any school break, to give your skin a rest.
Wash your face twice a day (mornings and at night) with a sensitive facial wash. Don't put anything on your face, not even a moisturizers (even though I LOVE moisturizers), acne medicine or makeup. I know from experience, that will help you clear your acne up faster than any products.

Something that has just been discovered recently, is that anti-aging creams can prevent acne!!
Patricia Wexler, M.D. says this on page 51 of Seventeen Magazines February 2011 issue:
'An antiaging product can actually clear up your acne! Pick one that contains a little retinol - It helps skin shed dead cells faster so they don't clog up your pores.'
(yea, I love Seventeen Magazine!! lol)

more coming soon . . .

Acne

I've had acne since I was in the fourth grade!! Since then, my skin has changed a lot so I don't know my skin as well as I use to. For the past year or 2, I've had EXTREAMLY dry skin. I'm use to having really oily skin. I knew how to take care of my skin when I had oily skin, and (now) know how to take care of my dry skin.
It's not all gone yet, but close to it.
This is me (an acne 'victim'), trying to help others get rid of acne, as I do the same.
(please email me at moorebeautyblog@yahoo.com or comment down below for Q's, advice or anything else related to this blog)

Getting rid of acne

There's obviously a lot of products to help you fight acne, hundreds even. But some little things like eating raisins and macadamian nuts, and staying away from the chocolate, can also help a lot.
Also, things like washing your pilow cases once a week does a world of difference. You would be amazed at how affective dirty pilow cases can be to your acne, even if they don't look dirty.
When you're sitting in class, bored out of your mind, do not rest your face on your fists or in the palms of your hands. That's a BIG no!!
Staying hydrated is also very important. Drink as much water as yo can. You can aways tell when a person is healthy or not on the inside by looking on the outside. If you're healthy, your skin will be healthy and clear (with few exceptions), and soft and silky hair (with exceptions). If you're not healthy, you're skin and hair isn't going to be the prettiest in the world.

Moore fashion

New Trends

 What's going to be hot this spring??
~ The color coral is going to be the main fashion color. (yay!! I love that color)
~ Blue jean is back!! The last time jean was this big was back in the 90's. Now, whole outfits of blue jean are the way to go.
~ LACE. Weather it's little details or whole peices, it's gonna be the latest fashion (again  ;D)
~ Though I'm not very open to this idea, 70's fashion seems to be manking a big come-back.
~ As always, bold prints are in. But mabey even more this coming up spring than ever.  Florals are the most fashionable prints to go with.

Favorite Stores and brands

 ~ Rue21 (keep in mind that the items in the stores are not on their website. It's pretty much a go-to only store. -But amazing)
~ alloy.com (LOVE THIS PLACE)
~ Delias.com (Another online favorite)
~ Charlotterusse.com (for more mature and sexy clothes, but still cute)
~ lulus.com (They've got some seriously cute things in this store)
~ Khols (My favorite line at Khols is Britany Spears' line Candies. Looove it)
~ JCPenny (They can be expensive but they've got some pretty amazing things. AND they've always got a sale going on.)
~ Sears (Sears has everything, including the latest fashion!!)

Wear your personality

No matter what fashion trends come and go, one thing is always in styles.  Being YOU!!  Don't wear things just because the fashion magazines say to.  If you like it, wear it.  Fahion is created for and by the people, so people wear what you want to wear!!
Wear yourself in your clothing. You can make anything your own.  What are your favorite things to do with an outfit?
Some of mine are:
~ Wearing cowboy boots with almost anything (cause I'm . . . just a little bit country!?! lol So even though I love fashion, I can still keep who I am in my style.)
~ Wearing a lot of pretty florals!!
~ Adding a few long elegant, but cute, necklaces to tie an outfit together.
~ Picking really flowy items when I go shopping. (I put comfort first, fashion 2nd)

Moore Beauty

Grocery store fixes:
(Grocery store fixes are things you can buy from a grocery store that you can use as beauty products. You'll save money, and it's fun)
Radiant skin
Mix sugar, honey and lime together. Spread the paste on your face, leave it for 20 minutes, then wash off with a good cleanser. TIP: Don't use too much lime!! An over-dose can be harmful to your skin. (As seen on page 89 of Seventeen magazine's February 2011 issue)
more coming soon

Tips:
Facial peeler
If your skin is any of theese:
~Unusually dry (even for winter)
~Skin care products don't work as well as they use to
~Skin just isn't as radiant or healthy anymore
then you probably need a good peeler. A peeler is a facial that peels away dead skin that prevents your new skin to live out it's full potential. It peels away all the dead skin that's just sitting on your face, to reveal new, healthy, beatiful skin.
Olay's face peeler is a good choice even though it costs $20!! But it will last a really long time. You can buy it in drugstores, walmart or kmart.
Another option is Clinique's face peeler. It's a bit more pricey and it doesn't have as much in it, but Clinique skin care products are always very good!!
Skin lightener
If you have (or had) acne scars like me, a skin lightener is a very handy beauty product to have. It's usually a lotion that you spread over the areas where you your acne scars are, daily. Over time, they'll disapear like you never had acne at all. (doesn't help with the pimples themself, though.)

Makeup

Looks:
~The smokey eye
The smokey eye look is my personal favorite. You can dress it up or down however you want to, use whatever colors you please, and it's a perfecr look for any kind of event.
_____________________________________________________
~Natural
Natural is always a good choice. Just a little mascara, mabey a little tiny bit of eyeliner, and light eyeshadow (cream is the best way to go with this look) and you're good to go.
_______________________________________________________
~Bold
Not always the best choice but if you can pull it off, it'll be a show stopper that everyone will remember the next day.
_________________________________________________________
~Glam
I love Glam. Especially Glam Rock!! Though you can't really wear it with any outfit or to any event, it's a hot look when you can.
_____________________________________________________
~Sleek
The sleek look has been around since the 40's, mabey even longer. But no matter how old, it's still an attention getter. It's a look that Megan Fox is famous for. Celebrities love to wear this look to red carpet events but you can still wear it safey everyday (if you leave out the red lipstick).

My  favorite PRODUCTS
Foundation:
~Mabelline 'Dream mousse' & 'Dream Smooth Mousse' (My favorite foundation ever, ever!!)
~Clinique 'Acne solutions liquid foundation' or 'Superbalanced makeup'
~Estee Lauder 'Nutritious vita-mineral foundation'
_________________________________________________
FAVORITE MAKEUP BRANDS
~Coastal Scents
Costal Scents is in my top 3 favorite cosmetic brands. They're affordable, have a good variety, and are very good over-all products. Eyeshadow is it's biggest (and best) product. You really need to check them out!!
Coastalscents.com (Be sure to check out my favorite eyeshadow palette while you're there!! 88 Metal Mania Palette)
________________________________
~BHCosmetics
BHCosmetics is a lot like Coastal Scents. Although they don't have as big of a variety as Coastal Scents has, they're products are just as afforable and amazing!! My favorite BHCosmetics product is their foundation primer. A little goes a long way, it's affordable and it's a product that will make your foundation look even better!!
BHCosmetics.com

~Wet N' Wild
Wet N' Wild is a very cheap makeup brand that you can find in any drugstore.  Most of the time it's avoided because the prices are so cheap. 'You get what you pay for.' Well, in this case, that saying is FAR from the truth. I got a Wet N' Wild eyeshadow palett for christmas and was very standoffish at first. But I tried it, and it's one of my favorite eyeshadows now!! Great colors, they go on great, feel great and are REALLY good quality that you would never expect from a drugstore.
______________________________
~e.l.f.
e.l.f. (eyes lips face) are a lot like Wet N' Wild but even cheaper!! But they're really good quality, as well. I have an order on the way from their website that should get her today or tomorrow and I can't wait!!
eyeslipsface.com Don't forget to look at their brushes!! (Use code ship25 for free shipping on orders $25 or more)

Hair Care

My favorite Hair Products
(When it comes to frizzy hair, I know what I'm talking about!! :/ I put Hermione to shame)
The hydrating Herbal Essence products like their shampoo and conditioner can work wonders on frizzy hair.
Pantene products are really good products for any kind of hair. They just recently came out with many new kinds of shampoos, conditioners and styling products. Curly, thick, normal, blonde, brunette, red and more. They've got it and they work great.
Another great hair line for frizz is Dove. It is my favorite kind of shampoo and condition, ect. for my thick and frizzy hair. Enough said. :)
Great Shine: Coconut Milk
Coconut Milk is a bit expensive compared to other hair care products at $7 compared to the usual $5 (for most products). BUT, it's just amazing, and a little goes a long way so it lasts a long time. In my opinion, it's worth the money.

Grocery fixes for hair

(as seen on page 111 of Seventeen magazine's March 2011 issue)
'seal split ends'
Ingrediants:
1) Coconut oil
2)apple cider vinegar
~ Rub a few drops of coconut oil between your palms, then run yor hands through your hair (just avoid the roots)
~ Wait 15 minutes for the oil to sink in, then hop in the shower and shampoo your hair. Rinse it with cold water.
~ Next, pour 1 cup apple cider vinegar (diluted with a little bit of water) over your head, and follow with another cool rinse.
_____________________________________________
'Create beachy waves'
Ingrediants:
1) Sea salt
2) Hot water
~ Mix 2 teaspoons of sea salt (not table salt!) into 1 cup boiling water until the salt dissolves.
~ Once the mixture cools, pour it into a spray bottle.
~ Mist it into your hands, not directly on your hair (so you don't over-do it), and finger-comb through damp hair from roots to ends. Let your hair air-dry.
________________________________________________
'Get awesome shine' (My favorite)
Ingredaiants:
1) Banana
2) Olive oil
3) egg
4) yogart (plain)
5) honey
~ Crush 1 banana in a bowl; add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 egg, and 2 tablespoons plain yogart. Mix the ingrediants into a paste.
~ Apply paste from roots to ends. Cover hair with plastic wrap; let mask set for 30 minutes. Rinse and shampoo.
~ Squeeze all excess moisture from your hair, then combine 1 teaspoon honey with 1 cup of cool water, stirring until the honey dissolves. Pour the mixture over your hair, but don't rinse it out -- just towel-dry and style as usual.
